The conclusion of New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James’s Essex Sisters series!
Fueled by the knowledge that notoriety is better than failure, witty, unconventional Josie does what no proper young lady should—she challenges fate. She discards her corset and flirts outrageously. She attends the horse races and allows an arrogant rakehell to whisk her behind the stables for a surreptitious kiss . . . and is caught!
She doesn’t want to marry the young hellion—but who’s to help? Her chaperone keeps disappearing for mysterious appointments; her guardian is on his wedding trip; and his friend the Earl of Mayne is too busy staring into the eyes of his exquisite French fiancÉe.
Can a marriage forced by stuffy convention and unwilling desire become the match of the season?
Warning: Possible Spoilers
I love this story. It had all the elements in a romance story which I love. Josie was smart and crafty. The story had twists and turns which were predictable but were a delight to read. Also, the side story of Darlington and Griselda was very entertaining. I have not read the other Essex sister’s stories but eventually I will. This story has possibly tied every story in the Essex sister’s series (personal conclusion). Somehow, the Earl of Mayne is connected to every sister. This book really made me read major spoilers but it just was too good to stop reading them. This does not deter me to read the other books in this series. Actually, it has made me more curious on how everything happened.
Why I like this story..
- I love Darlington and Griselda’s instant love situation..
- Josie’s qualities were unique. She knew everything about breeding horses.
- I was satisfied with the ending
- The Earl of Hellgate’s Memoir
What i did not like in the story..
- Josie made an assumption which led to a crazy plan
I gave this book a 5 hearts because I love the story. It had a simple plot and the side stories were good too. It’s nice to see that Darlington has fallen in love with one of the widows. The Earl of Hellgate’s Memoir was an interesting heading for every chapter. Also, the identity of the earl is a mystery. Again, Eloisa James makes her character’s flirt in a very witty and fun way. This makes me read and relish her writing style. In this story, my only pet peeve would be Josie’s dramatic tendencies. She was set on giving back Mayne back to his french ex. This made her make a crazy plan which could have endangered Mayne. Despite this tidbit, it was a romantic read with the mysterious Earl of Hellgate Memoir to make it more interesting.
BUY, BORROW, NEVER MIND: Buy, because it is a good romantic story
