For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

LIKENESS SCALE:❤❤❤❤ (4.5 hearts)

The story is the first book to the selection series. It’s protagonist,  America Singer is a five which was chosen by lottery to be part of the Selection. The selection is a contest where in young ladies from Illea can have the opportunity to become the crown princess and marry the Crown Prince Maxon. Every lady who is eligible would want this but America is not your ordinary girl. She is hot headed, feisty and definitely would not enter the selection. She has her own plans but due to heart break and other reasons, she joins the selection with 34 other ladies.

This is my second time reading the book and my feelings for it are the same. I love America and Prince Maxon, but I think they both need to mature more . I hope the other books would develop these characters more. As for Aspen, he is adorable but  very selfish. I gave this book a 4.5 hearts rating because the story was predictable. Despite being easy to predict, it was so good that I believe that both guys have a chance with America. I enjoyed the story so much that it was like watching The bachelors – less the commercials and mature content.

“I couldn’t joke about the person who’d saved me from facing absolute heartbreak at home, who fed my family boxes of sweets, who ran to me worried that i was hurt if I asked for him.
A month ago, I had looked at the TV and seen a stiff, distant, boring person-someone I couldn’t imagine anyone loving. And while he wasn’t anything close to the person I did love, he was worthy of having someone to love in his life.”
― Kiera Cass, The Selection
